Asssociation for Childhood Education International (ACEI)
ACEI is a professional organization that advocates for the adequate education for children from birth to early adolescence. The Free Resources section includes teaching ideas.

Early Child Development at the World Bank
The World Bank supports projects to improve the development and education of children from birth to age seven. This website provides information to assist policy makers, program managers and practitioners regarding the importance of early childhood education, as well as project development steps and financing tools.

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
NAEYC, the early childhood professional organization, has articles from its journal, professional development information, and accreditation standards. It provides law and public policy information and links to other early childhood resources.

National Network for Child Care
Includes links to over 1000 research-based and reviewed publications related to child care that are drawn from the Cooperative Extension, an outreach system of landgrant universities. An e-mail forum and a list of child care resources by state are also available.

Alphabet Books
A selected list of all kinds of alphabet books, from books to teach young children how to identify letters to artistic interpretations of the alphabet. All titles are available in the Curriculum Materials Center of the Cheng Library.

Big Books: Health, Mathematics and Science
Focusing on health, mathematics and science many of these oversized picture books have teaching guides with suggestions for lesson planning. Big Books may be borrowed from the Curriculum Materials Center of the Cheng Library for 28 days.

Recommended Easy Reader Books
First readers are intended for children at a first or second grade level that have a recognizable format and often belong to a series. This list is divided by Level A (First Steps), Level B (Gaining Confidence) and Level C (Taking Off). All titles are available in the Curriculum Materials Center of the Cheng Library.

Free searchable database of over 14,000 resources related to child care and early education. This unbiased, interdisciplinary collection includes full-text scholarly research, policy briefs, government reports and data sets. Created through a partnership among Columbia University, the University of Michigan and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

ELSIE: Early Literacy Storytime Ideas Exchange
Developed by the Hennepin County Library, ELSIE is a database of over 500 picture books. Each entry features a short summary and Presentation Ideas that suggest how to develop early literacy skills. Search by keyword, or specific skill groups, e.g. phonological sensitivity.

abcteach: The educator's online resource
Over 5000 resources (printable worksheets, interactive activities, and theme units) are available for free. Purchasing a membership enables access to over over 40,000 cross-curricular materials, interactive activities, clip art, and abctools custom worksheet generators. Developed and maintained by Sandy Kemsley, a former elementary school teacher.

Between the Lions
The Between the Lions site from PBS provides stories, games, and multimedia to build early literacy skills. Curriculum connections, handouts and other ideas are available from the Teachers section.

Colorin Colorado
Subtitles: A bilingual website for families and educators of English language learners. Colorin Colorado contains information, strategies, activities, and resources for teachers who work with English learners. Activities are designed for PreK-3, but many can be adapted for older students. Sponsored by WETA (a public television station) with support from the American Federation of Teachers, National Institute for Literacy and the U.S. Department of Education.

SongWorks for Children: A Video Library of Children Making Music
This website includes 700 clips from Oberlin College's MusicPlay program for children, ages 3-5. The clips are searchable by music genre (classics, nursery rhymes, etc.) and features (behavior, literacy, music skills,etc.), as well as by activity (fingerplay, reading, movement, etc.).

Community Club
Part of Scholastic's Listen and Read collection of short stories that young readers can read and/or listen to. The Community Club section includes eight community helpers. This brochure of Mister Rogers' advice to parents and those who work with children was produced by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The same information and a short video is also available from The Fred Rogers Company.

Parenting Resources from The Fred Rogers Company
The Parenting Resources page suggests how parents, teachers and counselors can handle new and challenging situations with young children. Topics such as meeting someone with disabilities, dealing with death and tragic events in the news, provide helpful hints and many include video clips from the Mister Rogers program.

Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards
Includes the complete text of the Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards developed by the NJ Department of Education. The 2009 revision of the Core Content Curriculum Standards aligned standards for preschool learning with the K-12 standards. The Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards are also included in the P-12 documents for five subject areas. All the preschool standards for can be accessed through the Core Content Curriculum Standards search engine.
