Big Books: Health, Mathematics and Science
Focusing on health, mathematics and science many of these oversized picture books have teaching guides with suggestions for lesson planning. Big Books may be borrowed from the Curriculum Materials Center of the Cheng Library for 28 days.

Developed by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics this website includes links to articles, and other resources (BMI calculator, handouts) about nutrition. Its companion site, Kids Eat Right, focuses on nutrition information for infants through teens.

Links to ancient recipes, descriptions of ancient foods, and explanations of the development of various popular food items are listed and linked to further information in this timeline that covers from 17,000 BC to the present.

Gateway to 21st Century Skills
The Gateway was developed by the U.S. Department of Education. Now supported by the National Education Association, the Gateway provides access to the lesson plans and other teaching resources from over 750 organizations. All are evaluated for authoritativeness, quality, and availability.

Alphabetical list of websites developed for kids by various governmental agencies and non-profit organizations. Includes games and information on diseases, prevention and general wellness. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

KidsPsych has animated games for ages 1-5 and 6-9. Developed by Magination Press to be a vehicle for parents to help their children develop cognitive thinking skills, deductive reasoning, and to have some fun. This site may take a moment to load.

Microbe Zoo
A project of the Digital Learning Center for Microbial Ecology, this site showcases the microbes encountered in daily life. An interactive "zoo map" takes students through different microbial organisms and explains what each does and how it functions.

This website is designed for teens with special health care needs due to chronic disease, disability or developmental issues. Focuses primarily on transition issues of becoming independent. A project of the Center on Human Development and Disability at the University of Washington.

Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) works to keep those with food allergies safe and included. Resources for Schools lists national and state guidelines, care plans, training programs and how to deal with food allergy bullying.

Moving into the Future: National Standards for Physical Education
Originally developed in 1995 and revised in 2004, the National Standards for Physical Education were developed by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. Benchmarks are given for K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.

National Health Education Standards (NHES)
Developed by the Joint Committee on National Health Education Standards the National Health Education Standards (NHES) focus on eight standards. Benchmarks are provided for grades 2, 5, 8, and 12. Available from the website of the Center for Disease Control's School Health Education Resources.

Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans
Developed by the US Department of Health & Human Services, the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines provide recommendations for the amount and type of physical activity everyone needs for good health. Links to other health resources are included.

Includes the Safe Snack Guide which includes a list of food products that are safe to eat by children with food allergies. Developed by a parent of a child with food allergies the list is updated regularly. This website also includes news articles, flyers and other resources for parents and educators.

Teens can ask questions, or access a list of questions and answers on many teen health issues, both medical and psychological. Created by the staff of Morristown Memorial Hospital, it includes tips from teens on the hospital's advisory board.
