National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the world's largest mathematics education organization, is dedicated to ensuring a mathematics education of the highest quality for all students. The council also publishes four professional journals, a monthly newsletter, and offers Standards-oriented teachers institutes.

Bibliographies and Research Guides

Big Books: Health, Mathematics and Science
Focusing on health, mathematics and science many of these oversized picture books have teaching guides with suggestions for lesson planning. Big Books may be borrowed from the Curriculum Materials Center of the Cheng Library for 28 days.

Mathematical Connections to Children’s Literature
A selected list of books that suggest ways to introduce, extend, or reinforce mathematical concepts and problem solving skills and strategies using children's literature for students from Kindergarten through grade 8. These are all available in the Curriculum Materials Center of the David and Lorraine Cheng Library.

An annotated list of videos about mathematics for Grades 6-12. These videos are available in either VHS or DVD formats. Most are available in Media Services and can be viewed or checked out.

Funbrain has more than 100 free educational games, online books, and comics. Created for kids ages preschool through grade 8, encourages the development of math, reading and literacy skills. Funbrain is published by Family Education Network, a part of Pearson

Gateway to 21st Century Skills
The Gateway was developed by the U.S. Department of Education. Now supported by the National Education Association, the Gateway provides access to the lesson plans and other teaching resources from over 750 organizations. All are evaluated for authoritativeness, quality, and availability.

Created by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), Illuminations is organized by Activities, Lessons, Standards and Web Links. Over 700 activities and lessons can be selected by grade level and math standard. It includes links to the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, as well as over 700 Internet math resources organized by math standard.

Interactivate has collections of science and math activities, lessons, and discussions with interactive software to teach various concepts. The pull-down menus help you to focus your search. Searches can be limited by grade level, textbooks, and standards. Sponsored by Shodor, a nonprofit organization that provide materials and instruction relating to computational science.

Math Forum @ Drexel
Resource center for mathematics education from preK through college. Includes lesson plans and activities, teacher discussion groups, and interactive resources. There are links to other math websites, and articles about math education.

Math Goodies
Mrs. Glosser's Math Goodies offeres interactive lessons, homework help, worksheets and forums. Over 400 pages of activities for students from grades 5 to 8, teachers and parents. Includes interactive calculators and links to tutoring services.

Math Pickle
Developed by Dr. Gordon Hamilton, Math Pickle focuses on creative problem-solving. Short videos describe the games and puzzles that are organized by grade levels. Very challenging!

Math World
An interactive mathematics encyclopedia created by Eric Weisstein. Written for high school through college level, MathWorld includes definitions, articles, formulas and games for algebra, geometry, probability and advanced mathematics topics.

National Science Digital Library (NSDL)
Developed by the National Science Foundation the NSDL includes digital resources and collections such as the Math Common Core Collection, Science Literacy Collections, Science Refreshers and Bilingual Resources. The collections include digital learning objects, podcasts, lesson plans, and other teaching activities.

NJASCD Common Core Portal
The New Jersey Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (NJASCD) created this web page to help guide the implementation of the Common Core Standards. "Uncommonly Good Curriculum Projects" are units of study developed by schools throughout NJ. "Format/Template for Curriculum Design" can be used for development of curriculum units. Additional resources about the Common Core Standards are also available

Purplemath Algebra Resource
This is a middle school and high school math site with a sense of humor. Along with presenting helpful tips and explanations of a variety of basic algebra concepts, it includes sassy "how to suck up to your teacher" tips that are really basic notetaking and homework skills in disguise. Fun to read and learn.

Students' Classroom
Sponsored by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) the Students' Classroom has mathematical learning activities to learn how to create and use graphs. Other activities include testing your knowledge, conducting surveys and an online magazine.

Common Core Standards -- Mathematics
Adopted by New Jersey the Common Core Standards in Mathematics stress the conceptual understanding of mathematical practices. The standards are organized by both grade level and domain (groups of related standards).

Principles and Standards for School Mathematics
Developed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics were developed in 2000. If not a member of NCTM you may sign up for free online access for 120 days. A print copy of this document is also available in the Curriculum Materials Center of the Cheng Library.

What Works Clearinghouse (WWC)
Developed by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), part of the U.S. Department of Education, this website identifies education practices that are based on reviews of education research. It includes a searchable database of research studies that have been reviewed.
