National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT)
The National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) unites life science educators from around the world to share knowledge and experiences, and to promote professional growth "to provide the best possible biology and life science education for all students."

National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)
The National Science Teachers Association strives to promote excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning. The Association publishes educational books, a newspaper, and a professional journal for each level of science teaching.

Next Generation Science Standards
Released in Spring 2013 the Next Generation Science Standards were developed by the National Research Council, the National Science Teachers Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Achieve. NJ participated in the development of these standards, though they have not yet been adopted by New Jersey.

Big Books: Health, Mathematics and Science
Focusing on health, mathematics and science many of these oversized picture books have teaching guides with suggestions for lesson planning. Big Books may be borrowed from the Curriculum Materials Center of the Cheng Library for 28 days.

A cooperative effort between the National Science teachers Association (NSTA) and Children's Book Council (CBC), this annotated list describes outstanding science books for kindergarten through twelfth grade published in the last year.

Science Education Videos
This is an annotated list of science videos for PreK to Grade 12. These videos are available in either VHS or DVD format. Videos for PreK through Grade 5 are available from the Curriculum Materials Center, while videos for Grades 6-12 are available from Media Services. Videos can be either viewed in the Cheng Library or checked out.

Celebrate New Jersey
Celebrate NJ! is a nonprofit organization that seeks to promote the best of New Jersey. Coordinated by Karen Hatcher, Celebrate NJ supports a Fourth Grade Program (online newspaper), Middle School STEP (Science, Technology and Environment Program), and Classroom Connections (a letter writing program for grades 3-5).

Encyclopedia of Life (EOL)
The goal of the creators of the Encyclopedia of Life (EOL) is to "make freely available to anyone knowledge about all the world’s organisms." This global partnership includes Harvard, the Smithsonian Institutions and other scientific institutions. Resources include podcasts, field guides, activities, BioBlitz, and tools for learning about biodiversity. While anyone can contribute, experts ensure quality of the collection.

Environmental Literacy Council
A virtual library of information about a variety of environmental topics. The teacher section includes lesson plans and labs, as well as reviews of teaching resources. The student portion includes background information, additional resources and links to web resources and Ask an Expert websites.

Fuel our Future Now
Divided by elementary, middle school, high school, teachers and parents this website provides activities and resources to explore energy efficient transportation. The Teacher Toolbox has sample lesson plans with short video clips to explore this topic. Co-sponsored by the U.S.Department of Energy and Discovery Education

An interactive game that asks, "Where should my waste go?" The website includes lesson plans and handouts. Developed by NatureBridge, and environmental science education group that is a partner of the National Park Service.

Gateway to 21st Century Skills
The Gateway was developed by the U.S. Department of Education. Now supported by the National Education Association, the Gateway provides access to the lesson plans and other teaching resources from over 750 organizations. All are evaluated for authoritativeness, quality, and availability.

Global Learning Program
This website is a program designed to teach global learning, and environmental observation. It contains a "Teacher's Guide" on how to create global awareness. Students can collaborate with global scientists in collecting data from the enviroment near their school.

Imagine Mars Project
Formerly known as the Mars Millenium Project, this site challenges students, K-12, to design a community for the planet Mars, and provides lesson plans and project ideas. Sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

Interactivate has collections of science and math activities, lessons, and discussions with interactive software to teach various concepts. The pull-down menus help you to focus your search. Searches can be limited by grade level, textbooks, and standards. Sponsored by Shodor, a nonprofit organization that provide materials and instruction relating to computational science.

A project sponsored by the Center for Educational Outreach at the Baylor College of Medicine, K8 Science includes curriculum units in Life Science, Physical Science and Earth/Space Science. Within each unit are resources such as videos, slide sets and lesson plans.

Microbe Zoo
A project of the Digital Learning Center for Microbial Ecology, this site showcases the microbes encountered in daily life. An interactive "zoo map" takes students through different microbial organisms and explains what each does and how it functions.

Learning activities and materials for students and teachers at all grade levels, K -12, encompassing Aerospace Technology, Biological and Physical Research, Earth Science, Space Exploration and Space Science.

National Science Digital Library (NSDL)
Developed by the National Science Foundation the NSDL includes digital resources and collections such as the Math Common Core Collection, Science Literacy Collections, Science Refreshers and Bilingual Resources. The collections include digital learning objects, podcasts, lesson plans, and other teaching activities.

New Jersey Agricultural Society
The mission of the New Jersey Agricultural Society is "to preserve and enhance agriculture, farming and related activities and businesses in New Jersey through educational, informational, and promotional programs." The Learning Through Gardening link provides lesson plan and teaching activities about agriculture, weather and other science topics.

PBS Teachers: EcoInvestigators
Using the principles of both inquiry-based science and CmPS (Community Problem Solving) instruction this website includes lesson plans focusing on four environments: air, land, freshwater and saltwater. Included are handouts, rubrics, links to other websites and other resources.

A project of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, this website includes lesson plans and online learning tools (searchable by grade level and branch of science), collections of resources relating to a single topic, and updates of science news.

Created by the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies this website provides lesson plans and other resources from the Smithsonian Institute. Searchable by keyword, grade level, subject area or standards, the resources range from activity sheets, photos, videos and across all subject areas.

Benchmarks for Science Literacy
Benchmarks for Science Literacy were developed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)and were used to draft the National Science Education Standards. They identify what all student should know and do in science, mathematics, and technology. The Benchmarks Online can be search by chapter or keyword.

Federal Emergency Management Agency for Kids
The website of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) teaches students how to be prepared for disaster, and how to prevent disaster damage. Useful for elementary students, the site allows students to play games, read stories and become a Disaster Action Kid.

Science exhibits and ideas for interesting science connections to the real world. Includes interactive programs, laboratory workshops, electronic field trips and many other experiences.

Women@NASA is a collection of videos and essays from women who have worked at NASA in a variety of capacities. Many overcame tremendous obstacles in order to pursue their dreams. This website was developed to encourage young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
