Points of View Reference Center
Full-text database that provides multiple viewpoints on a variety of contemporary issues. Each topic section features an overview along with point and counterpoint essays drawn from a variety of sources, plus supplementary information including primary source documents and guides to critical thinking.

American Memory from the Library of Congress
The American Memory Project is a digital record of American history, containing documents, maps, photographs, moving images, sound recordings and memorabilia from American life. The collection of over 5 million items chronicles daily life as well as major events. Searchable by broad subjects or keywords. The Learning Page includes sample lesson plans and other teaching suggestions.

CountryReports
While CountryReports is a subscription database it provides a significant amount of information to the visitor. The Country reports section gives the capital, populations, GDP, area, currency and some basic information without logging in. Subscribers can access more extensive information about culture, history, government and demographics. The Activities section has geography games, data comparisons, and other teacher resources.

National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies
Revised in September 2010 by the National Council for the Social Studies, the National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies is not available online. Only the Executive Summary, Preface, Introduction and the Ten Themes of Social Studies are available from this website. A print copy is available from the CMC of the Cheng Library.

National Standards for History
Developed in 1996 by the National Center for History in the Schools at the University of California, Los Angeles under the guidance of the National Council for History Standards, the National Standards for History for grades 5-12 are divided into three sections. U.S. National Geography Standards

Voluntary National Content Standards in Economics
The 2nd edition of the Voluntary National Content Standards in Economics is available as a pdf from this website. The website of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) teaches students how to be prepared for disaster, and how to prevent disaster damage. Useful for elementary students, the site allows students to play games, read stories and become a Disaster Action Kid.

National Atlas
A project of the United States Department of the Interior nationalatlas.gov provides a variety of maps of the United States. The maps represent agriculture, climate, geology, history, population, transportation trends in the U.S. The MapMaker enables custom maps to be drawn for the user. Some maps are printable, others can be purchased.

Natural Disasters and Severe Weather
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have developed these tips for preparing for and recovering from natural disasters. The types of disasters include earthquakes, extreme heat, floods, hurricanes, landslides and mudslides, tornadoes, tsunamis, volcanoes, wildfires and winter weather.
